My Skepticism

“I am a skeptic.” That’s what a friend said to me once in response to some claim I made about some accepted scientific theory. My first thought was that she didn’t really mean that she was a skeptic; what she meant was that she’s skeptical about ideas with which she’s already inclined (for whatever reasons) to disagree.
